Newington Fundraising and Forum Committee

Members of our School Fundraising and Forum Committee

The Fundraising Group is made up of parents and grandparents of pupils and former pupils of Newington Primary School.

The group raises money from fundraising events throughout the school year.  These include annual Hallowe'en and Summer Discos, a Christmas Fare, Easter Beetle Drives and raffles.

Our main focus for fundraising is to support curricular travel within the school to benefit all pupils in our school. In 2015/16 we donated £2000.00 towards this.  Recently we have purchased leotards for the school gymnastics club.

As well as raising money from events the group also help at the Scholastic Book Fare held during October which allows each class to buy new books for their class libraries.  They also sell second hand uniforms too.

Members recently enjoyed an excellent evening at the annual Burns' Supper which is held at our school.

The Group meet four or five times per year and they are always keen for new members.

Fundraising Annual Report 2016/17

The fundraising Group have had another successful year.  The  events which we have organised  during the school year have been well supported.

In October members helped staff the Scholastic Book Fayre during the school day and during Parental Consultation Evening.  This support enabled all classes and the Learning Zone and Nursery to purchase books for their class libraries to the value fo £58.00.

The Hallowe'en Disco proved popular and the new idea of letting parents in a little earlier to pick up pupils made the end of the school disco easier to manage as it is difficult to watch that no children slip away on their own especially at this time of year when it is dark outside.

Our Christmas Fayre had the usual variety of stalls and was well supported by parents and friends.  Members of staff helped out on this date which was much appreciated.  We were fortunate to receive a donation from the Snowball Fund at Magnox which we used to buy selection boxes which were the gift from Santa.

We once again sold raffle tickers for hampers on the Christmas Concert dates which raised a lot of money.

In January, members enjoyed being guests at the Burns Supper.  It was another superb evening of entertainment by the P6 and P7 pupils.  A delicious meal was served by the kitchen staff.

In March, the sale of second hand uniforms at the Parental Consultation evening once again proved popular.

A chick drive was held just before the Easter holidays was a fun family evening for everyone who attended.  Thanks goes to Mrs Smart, for once again providing the very popular 'wooden spoon' prizes.

At the close of Sports' Day, all pupils received an ice lolly from the Fundraising Committee.

The Summer Disco was our last event of the school calendar and was very well supported.  Thanks to June, who organises the purchase of drinks for the discos and also stores them until the date which they are needed.

We have once again donated £2000.00 towards curricular travel in the school which is the main focus of our fundraising efforts.

Once again, my personal thanks go to the committee for their work throughout the year and also to Mr Torbett, Mr Armstrong, Mr Kennedy and the Office Staff for their help throughout the year.

Lastly, we would like to wish Mrs Lloyd a happy retirement and thank her for all the support she has given  to the Fundraising Committee over the years.

2015/16 Update

The past year has once again proved to be a successful one for the fundraising group.

In October members staffed The Scholastic Book Fair during Parental Consultation. This support enabled all classes, Nursery and Learning Zone to all receive books for their class libraries to the value of £60.00.

Our Christmas Fare was well supported by parents and friends and we had many staff members helping out which was much appreciated.

We had all the usual stalls and this year we purchased a Kindle which proved popular. The Snowball fund from Magnox kindly donated money to help towards the cost of selection boxes which helped raise the final total of the fare. Santa proved popular and once again having two Santas helped reduce the waiting time to visit him.

On the Christmas concert dates we sold raffle tickets for Pamper hampers.

In January members once again enjoyed an evening of entertainment at the annual Burns Supper.

In March at the Spring Parents Consultation Evening we once again sold the second hand school  uniforms this raised £116.00.

A Chick Drive was held was just before the Easter Holidays which was well supported. The Newington School booby prize spoons proved very popular!

At the end of Sports Day in June all classes received an ice lolly from the Fundraising Group. We will look to reduce the cost of these next year.

This year we purchased new leotards for our gymnastics team. The gymnastics coaches very much appreciated our support with this and the gymnastics looked very smart at competitions in their new kit.

We also donated £2000.00 to school funds as we continue to support curricular travel in school.

Once again many pupils enjoyed the annual Halloween and Summer Discos.

Once again my personal thanks go to the committee for their help and support throughout the year and also to Mr Torbett, Mr Armstrong and Mr Kennedy and the office staff for their help throughout the year.
